TORONTO—Nokian Tyres P.L.C. of Finland is looking to establish tire-manufacturing capacity in North America. "To have any long-term growth, we have to have manufacturing here," said Dennis Gaede, president of Nokian Tyres Inc., the company's U.S. arm.
The company decided to pursue a manufacturing base in North America at its November board meeting, he said.
Forestry tires will get top priority in these plans, although Nokian also is interested in making passenger and light truck tires.
Mr. Gaede made these remarks during an interview Jan. 27 at the Tire Dealers Association of Canada meeting in Toronto.
