AKRON—Citing ``under-performance'' in its North American Tire unit and the costs of integrating the Dunlop tire businesses in North America and Europe, Goodyear reported a 47.5-percent drop in net income for the third quarter, to $97.2 million. Sales for the three months rose 3.1 percent to $3.29 billion.
The North American Tire business unit posted an operating loss of $108.6 million on a 1.2-percent increase in sales, to $1.62 billion. The loss was due, in part, to an inability to increase tire production to meet stronger-than-anticipated demand, the company said.
