PARIS—Sparked by a 9-percent rise in North American sales, Group Michelin reported a 3.8-percent increase in worldwide sales for the first half of 1999, to $6.5 billion. Michelin will release earnings data for the period in September.
The gains in North America offset a sales decline in Europe, Michelin said, while sales volume in Asia rebounded (up 13 percent) and Latin America stabilized.
Separately, Michelin announced Michel Rollier, a member of the Michelin Executive Council overseeing finance and legal since 1997, will become the firm's chief financial officer Oct. 1. He will succeed Eric Bourdais de Charbonniere, who is retiring.
