WACO, Texas—TASCO Distributing Ltd. has added a third warehouse in Texas, expanding the wholesaler's marketing reach into western Texas and the state's panhandle. The new 25,000-sq.-ft. distribution center opened June 1 in Lubbock, an area the company had been serving through common carrier delivery.
``Demand was such that we could move more product with a local presence in that market,'' TASCO Vice President and co-owner Philip Jander said.
Since opening the facility, business has ``just taken off,'' he said.
TASCO also operates an 80,000-sq.-ft. warehouse in its hometown of Waco and a 60,000-sq.-ft. distribution center in Houston. The company delivers to more than 1,000 dealers, primarily in Texas.
TASCO offers all types of tires, including passenger, light truck, specialty, medium truck and agricultural, Mr. Jander said. It also distributes batteries, accessories and tire service equipment and tools.
Farm tires account for about 25 percent of the company's sales, and it is the exclusive distributor of Michelin ag tires in Texas.
An American Car Care Centers distributor since 1995, TASCO also wholesales the Michelin Americas Small Tires product line, including Uniroyal and BFGoodrich, as well as Goodyear's Kelly and Republic brands and TBC Corp.'s Sigma private label.
The company was founded in 1965 as a subsidiary of the Texas Farm Bureau. It expanded its tire operation in 1995 with the acquisition of the Straus Frank Tire Division.
In 1998, four local businessmen—all certified public accountants with no previous tire industry experience—purchased the firm.
This year, the Texas Tire Dealers Association named TASCO its ``distributor of the year.''
