ATDA elects new state of officers GULF SHORES, Ala.—The Alabama Tire Dealers Association held its annual convention and elected new officers July 23-24 in Gulf Shores.
New officers for 1999-2000 include: Tom Westmoreland of Westmoreland Tires in Albertville, president; Jimmy Jones of Jones Tire Co. in Montgomery, vice president; Cheryl Lentz of Lentz Tire & Service in Trinity, second vice president; and Jim Foust of McGriff Industries in Cullman, secretary/treasurer.
Also at the meeting, J.C. Files of Files Discount Tires in Gardendale won the $10,000 drawing for the first annual Hank McCafferty Memorial Scholarship Fund. Mr. Files donated the money to the building program at his church.
MATDA creates scholarship fund
TOPEKA, Kan.—The Mid-America Tire Dealers Association has established a scholarship program to help promote career opportunities in the tire industry for Kansas and Nebraska students.
The board will award four scholarships of $500 each—two for students planning to attend a college or university and two for students attending a technical school.
To qualify, a student must be an employee or child of a MATDA member or member employee. The deadline for applications is Jan. 1, 2000. For more information, contact MATDA at (785) 233-9660.
Tech course lineup expanded by ASA
BEDFORD, Texas—The Automotive Service Association will sponsor seven technical courses at this year's Congress of Automotive Repair and Service, to be held Nov. 4-6 at the Flamingo Hilton Hotel in Las Vegas.
The registration fee for ASA members is $295, while technicians pay $150.
