NEWPORT, Maine—Benjamin Cogswell, 46, of Levant, Maine, an employee of Stratham Tire Inc. in Bangor, Maine, has died from massive head injuries suffered in a June 22 tire explosion. Newport Police Chief James Ricker said the victim, a 20-year tire industry veteran, had replaced the inner tire of a dual-wheel unit on large truck at a Newport truck stop. That tire exploded while he still was installing the lug nuts on the outer tire.
The victim was knocked unconscious and died two days later without regaining consciousness.
``From what we can gather, he was doing everything he was supposed to,'' said Ron Nicholson, Stratham Tire controller.
