Lester L. Loescher KEARNEY, Neb.—Lester L. Loescher, who was president of the National Tire Dealers & Re-treaders Association in 1981, died June 11. He was 78.
In 1951, Mr. Loescher foun-ded L&W Service Center Inc. with a partner—the ``W'' in L&W—who stayed for a year.
At one time Mr. Loescher ran five tire stores in Colorado, one in Wyoming, several in Nebraska, and also started Midwest Audio Co., an appliance and audio equipment business.
L&W also operated a Bandag retreading shop in Kearney until four months ago when it was sold to Platte Valley Retreaders Inc. of Grand Island, Neb.
Floyd Butterfield, vice president and part owner of L&W, said about five years ago Mr. Loescher turned over the dealership's operation to his son, Marc, L&W's president, but still handled some financial matters and worked up to six hours daily.
L&W currently has four commercial/retail stores—in Kearney, Broken Bow, Cozad and York, Neb.—and a Midwest Audio store in Kearney after closing another last year in Grand Island, Neb.
In addition to his son, Mr. Loescher leaves his wife, June, and three daughters who are L&W shareholders: Lynette Ayers of Minneapolis, Deborah Keeney of Kearney, and Cynthia Sanchez of Omaha, Neb.
Charles R. MacLeod
MONCTON, New Brunswick—Charles R. MacLeod, 84, former executive director of the Atlantic Tire Dealers Association, died March 13.
A native of Springhill, Nova Scotia, Mr. MacLeod was with Chrysler Corp. Canada for 10 years and later worked from 1969 to 1979 for Palmer Inc., an automotive supplies firm, before retiring.
He served as executive director of the Atlantic Tire Dealers Association for 15 years, retiring in 1994.
He leaves his wife, Ada, and several nieces and nephews.
