CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.—Coker Tire Co. has added two tires developed specifically for classic midget race cars to the line of Firestone vintage tires it distributes worldwide. Coker Tire president Corky Coker said there has been tremendous demand for these tires from vintage midget racing hobbyists, many of whom still are using original rubber from the '50s and '60s.
The new Firestone Deluxe Champion midget racing tires have a four-ply polyester construction and are cured in new molds that were recreated from the original drawings.
The tube-type tires feature authentic tread designs, but for legal reasons carry a sidewall marking that reads: "For Display Purposes Only."
The new tires are available in two sizes/designs: a ribbed front tire, size 4.00-12; and a grooved rear tire, size 5.00-12.
Coker Tire said it hopes the new tires will be the first of many vintage racing tire offerings and invited customers interested in specific
sizes and tread designs to contact the company.
