Do you support manufacturers' establishment of minimum retail tire prices such as those recently adopted by Michelin North America for its BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A?
It is about time something was done to try to control the low-ballers out there.
Something has to be done to let us—the independents, the "experts"—garner our fair share of the market.

I find it interesting the same manufacturer that gave their crown jewel product to the price clubs, knowing how the tires would be marketed, now is trying to fix prices.

The key to minimum pricing all comes down to the manufacturers enforcing their policies. I don't see many tire makers with the courage to pull their line from a major dealer.

This system will result in a dictatorship of the rubber companies. What will happen to free enterprise? The weak get stronger and the stronger get weak.

As an independent tire dealer and auto service provider, I value that independence. When suppliers arbitrarily concoct selling prices, retail or wholesale, one of the basic factors of being independent is lost.
I do not condone price fixing as a solution to any unfavorable selling situation due to pricing by the manufacturers and others. If I decide I can meet or beat that competition, it is my right to do so. I will protect that right as long as I am in business.

I agree minimum retail pricing should be established in all areas of the tire business. The commercial side of the business is a dog-eat-dog world and prices on the same products are all over the board. Some dealers will just about give it away.

As an associate dealer for Firestone, I believe this is the right course for tire manufacturers to take.
...It will put us on the same level with the big chains that are trying to drive the independent dealers out of business.
I just hope Firestone and the rest of the manufacturers watch Michelin very closely and follow suit. I commend Michelin for taking this stance.

I don't like seeing any manufacturer place price controls on a product sold to an independent reseller. It can only lead to further attempts by other manufacturers to control the marketplace.

It's time a major manufacturer put up a defense on a tire line that is so popular....

The manufacturers do control our/their destiny in the marketplace.
