HORSESHOE BEND, Ark.—The Arkansas Independent Tire Dealers Association elected new officers during its convention March 14-16 in Hot Springs, Ark., and set a goal of enrolling 100 new members during 1997. The AITDA installed Charles Tippy of McCaul Tire, Paragould, president; Jay Guiltner of Guiltner-Steele Tire, West Memphis, first vice president; Arvin Williams of Williams Tire & Service, Benton, second vice president; and Ron Blackburn of Blackburn Firestone, Jonesboro, treasurer.
During the convention, the AITDA launched its 20th anniversary membership drive, with a goal of registering 100 new members. Last year the AITDA enrolled 31 new members, for a total of 249.
As part of the drive, the association is sending letters to 1,600 prospective dealer members, culled from a state tire tax mailing list; planning regional meetings; and setting up a reward program to encourage supplier representatives to support the membership drive.
This year the association also plans to set up a new training and education program through its suppliers and create an Internet site where the AITDA will list its members, association events and offer tips on tire care to consumers.
