MIDLOTHIAN, Va.—The Virginia Tire & Automotive Service Dealers Association said it succeeded in its goal to attract attendees from smaller dealerships to its reformatted convention, March 22-23. This was the group's first solo event after years of co-hosting a convention and trade show with the North Carolina Tire Dealers & Retreaders Association.
The VTASDA said in the past a number of dealers were reluctant to leave their businesses on a Friday for a weekend-long convention. Therefore, the association decided to shorten the convention schedule and present more educational seminars on Saturday morning.
Executive Director Steve Akridge said 175 people attended the convention and he had received positive feedback on the format.
During the meeting, the VTASDA elected Doug Webb of Webb's Tire, Appomattox, president; Howard Camden of H & J Tire, Lexington, president-elect; Jerry Tatum of Leete Tire, Petersburg, vice president; and Don Schultz of Hanover Tire, Richmond, secretary-treasurer.
