Australian group marks 20 years VICTORIA, Australia—Tyrepower Ltd., the largest group of independent tire dealers in Australia and New Zealand, is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its founding in 1977.
From a group of 10 dealers in Victoria, Tyrepower has grown into a dealer cooperative that comprises 193 outlets nationwide in Australia, 24 in New Zealand and 22 in South Africa. In Australia, the group said it represents 10 percent of the outlets for passenger and light truck tires.
Conti moves forward in Brazil
HANOVER, Germany—Continental AG is going ahead with long-rumored plans to establish tire manufacturing capacity and tire-wheel assembly capability in Brazil, with a site decision expected before year's end 1997.
To facilitate the search, Conti is opening a commercial sales and marketing office in Sao Paulo, Brazil, to be headed by Manual de Mota.
Conti's plans coincide with recent expansion announcements by European and American car and truck producers, which together are planning more than $12 billion in new investments in Brazil and Argentina.
