PARIS—Michelin is being investigated by the European Commission for allegedly unfair business practices, according to several European news reports. The EC, the administrative branch of the European Union, is said to be looking into allegations that Michelin is abusing its market clout in France and other European countries to dictate sales conditions to dealers. The investigation is focusing on Michelin's rebate structure, the news reports said.
Michelin had not responded to queries about the reports by deadline, Feb. 27. Michelin was investigated by Dutch authorities for similar reasons in the early 1980s.
