AKRON—Goodyear and Safety-Kleen, the world's largest recycler of automotive and industrial fluids, have joined forces to offer re-refined motor oil at the tire maker's more than 800 company-owned retail auto service centers. Under the new arrangement, Elgin, Ill.-based Safety-Kleen will collect oil and other vehicle fluids from the Goodyear stores, re-refine the oil, then supply it to Goodyear for sale as ``America's Choice'' oil, effectively eliminating the need for alternative used oil disposal.
``As consumers become more environmentally conscious, we'll continue to see an increased demand for re-refined oil,'' said Debra Walker, vice president of Goodyear's Retail Systems. ``Plus, an oil change with America's Choice will cost no more than one using a virgin oil brand.''
Jim Cavill, vice president of Safety-Kleen's finished lubricant products division, said lubricating oil does not wear out, but becomes contaminated as it circulates through a vehicle's engine. The company simply removes those impurities.
America's Choice, he said, has been approved for use by the Big Three automakers.
