WARRENDALE, Pa.—A new society was formed recently for automotive technicians. The Service Technicians Society (STS)—an affiliate of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE)—is dedicated to individuals with extensive knowledge in electronics, diagnostics, repair, mechanical and computer technology.
Warrendale-based STS's mission is to: advance the skills and education of service technicians; disseminate mobility service technology information; foster communication and cooperation among service technicians and other professionals worldwide; encourage high ethics and performance; inspire professionalism and excellence in the mobility service community; and serve the public need for environmentally responsible, safe and efficient mobility systems.
Among the benefits of belonging to the new organization, according to Jody L. Bradel, STS membership marketing manager, are:
Networking at STS's website (http://www.sts.sae.org)—which will be available at the end of July—and in STS local chapters;
Discounts on books and reference guides, car rentals, fax equipment, office products, overnight delivery service, hotels and travel;
Training and continuing education programs;
Group insurance and health care discounts, and other discounts; and
A home financing program with competitive rates;
Members will belong to local chapters composed of 30 or more STS members in a given geographic area, and will also join a technical division of their choice, including: light duty highway (cars, trucks, motorcycles); heavy duty highway (trucks and buses); non-highway (agricultural, construction, small engine); marine; rail; aero-space/aircraft; and others to come.
They will also receive a bimonthly newsletter, other STS and SAE publications, plus special rates on SAE standards.
