LOUISVILLE, Ky.-The International Tire and Rubber Association has published a reference guide that defines the ``core'' terms for the tire and rubber recycling industry. Developed by the ITRA's Tire & Rubber Recycling Advisory Council (TRRAC), the Scrap Terminology brochure provides a definition for each component of scrap tire or rubber throughout the recycling process-including terms such as ambient ground rubber, butyl rubber, mesh and tread peels.
The brochure also provides diagrams describing mesh screens, sieving, tire construction and grinding systems.
The TRRAC said the information was compiled from several industry sources, but the brochure is not meant to be all-inclusive.
``We trust this terminology will create a more uniform dialogue between tire recyclers, regulators and members of the business community,'' said TRRAC Chairman Dick Gust.
