FRANKFURT, Germany-Asia was a major focus of tire makers seeking technical and off-take agreements during the past 12 months. Continental AG was most active in such deals, taking over a technology supplier role in Indonesia, setting up an industrial tire off-take agreement in China, creating a radial tire production joint venture in India and allowing its Continental Barum subsidiary to link up with Russia's Moscow Tire.

Pirelli, traditionally the most active in technology licensing, entered a period of consolidation last year, as sales of hardware and technology to third parties in 1995 dropped 17 percent from 1994.

The following is an alphabetical listing of major tire makers and their respective technical partners worldwide, other than wholly or majority-owned subsidiaries.

Companies listed in boldface type are providing technology to those listed below them. An asterisk (*) following a company's name indicates it is a minority-owned subsidiary of the company supplying technology. Two asterisks (**) mean it is a former subsidiary.
