DETROIT-Japan's Bridgestone Corp. was the top-ranked tire company on a list of the world's 50 largest original equipment suppliers to the global automotive industry, compiled by Automotive News, a sister publication of TIRE BUSINESS. Only four tire makers made the list, which ranked companies by their total global OE sales in 1995.
Bridgestone ranked No. 8 overall, with 1995 OE sales of $5.56 billion.
Groupe Michelin placed second among tire companies and No. 11 overall, with an estimated $5.07 billion in OE sales last year.
Pirelli Group, No. 29 overall, was the next-ranked tire makers, with OE sales of $3.12 billion.
Goodyear, No. 49 overall, was the last tire maker to make the list, with $2 billion in OE sales.
