GOTHENBURG, Sweden-Groupe Michelin will build a radial car tire factory near Gothenburg this year to service the Scandinavian markets (Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland). The plant, thought to be the fourth dedicated to Michelin's proprietary ``C3M'' manufacturing techology, will be near the factories of Saab AB and Volvo AB, both significant original equipment customers. However, a spokesman said the plant's main purpose will be to supply the Scandinavian aftermarket, with winter tires representing a significant share of its output.
Michelin declined to disclose the plant's size, capacity or expected cost, but said it should begin operations in late 1997.
