WASHINGTON-Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. has recalled 698 associate- and private-brand passenger radials that may not meet the high-speed requirements for A-temperature-rated tires under the Uniform Tire Quality Grading System. The tires are the Mastercraft Avenger Radial GTH, size P205/60R14; Grand Spirit Radial HRX, P205/60R14; Cornell Challenger, P195/60R14, sold by Pep Boys; and Winston Winner, P195/60R14, sold by Winston Tire Co. All were made by Cooper between December 1995 and February 1996.
The tires could fail prematurely if driven at high speeds, according to Cooper. The company will provide free replacements within 60 days of notifying owners.
