NASHVILLE, Tenn.-Bridgestone/Firestone Inc. CEO Masatoshi Ono has been named to the additional position of chairman of the company's board of directors. He succeeds Yoichiro Kaizaki,
president of BFS's parent firm, Bridgestone Corp., who is relinquishing his post as BFS chairman to Mr. Ono. Mr. Kaizaki will remain a member of the BFS board.
Mr. Ono also has been promoted to executive vice president from senior vice president of the parent company. He will remain based at BFS headquarters in Nashville.
Mr. Ono became CEO of BFS in 1993 after serving in various executive positions at the Nashville-based firm since 1991, including executive vice president of manufacturing and technology, and president of BFS Tire Manufacturing and BFS Technology. He joined Bridgestone Corp. in 1959.
Tokyo-based Bridgestone also promoted former senior vice presidents Takeshi Uchiyama, Tadakazu Harada and Katsuyoshi Shibata to executive vice presidents for international operations, tire development and tire manufacturing, respectively.
CONTINENTAL GENERAL TIRE-Thomas J. Bruning, to director of replacement sales, responsible for sales of passenger and light truck tires in the U.S. aftermarket-was director of materials and logistics.
COOPER TIRE & RUBBER CO.-Jeffrey W. Pepple, to operations manager for the Mastercraft brand, also assisting with private brand operations-was a market operations analyst.
DUNLOP TIRE CORP.-P. David Jones, to senior vice president of operations, responsible for manufacturing, purchasing and technical operations-was senior vice president-technical.
GOODYEAR-Effective April 1:
Eric Brown, to the new position of director marketing/distribution program design, responsible for planning and improving linkage between Goodyear Canada and the North American Tire organization-was general manager, passenger tires.
Brian Kinnamon, to general manager, passenger tires-was general manager, commercial truck tires.
Donn Kramer, to general manager, commercial truck tires-was general manager of farm and Terra-Tire product lines.
Mike Thomann, to general manager for farm, Terra Tire and off-the-road (OTR) tires, a new business unit formed from the merger of Goodyear's farm and Terra Tire and its OTR units-was general manager, OTR tires.
Effective April 16:
Thomas L. Ford, to general manager, farm, Terra Tire and OTR tires-was general manager, retread systems, mileage sales and commercial tire and service centers.
Michael Thomann, to president and CEO of Brad Ragan Inc., a Goodyear subsidiary-was general manager, farm, Terra Tire and OTR tires (since April 1).
Effective May 1:
William P. Brophey, to vice president of original equipment tire sales worldwide, replacing the retiring James W. Barnett-was president and CEO of Brad Ragan Inc.
TARAY INTERNATIONAL CORP.-Bill W. Conley, to vice president-was director of sales and marketing.
TREADWAYS CORP.-Masato ``Mark'' Ueno, to executive vice president for the company, which does business as Sumitomo Tire (U.S.)-was on assignment with Sumitomo Corp. in Tokyo, Japan.
