COMPTON, Calif.-In a move to reduce distribution delays and boost inventory capacity, Toyo Tire (U.S.A.) Corp. will consolidate its western warehouse operations and create a centralized product ordering program in April. The company also will begin relocating its U.S. headquarters from Compton to an existing office building in nearby Cypress, Calif., beginning in May.
The U.S. subsidiary of Osaka, Japan-based Toyo Tire & Rubber Co. plans to move its warehouse operations in Compton, Kent, Wash., and Denver to a 300,000-sq.-ft. distribution center in Ontario, Calif. The new warehouse is 25-percent larger than the combined centers it will replace, Toyo said.
At the same time, the company will relocate its Elk Grove Village, Ill., warehouse to Nashville, Ill. Toyo has additional warehouse capacity in Coppell, Texas, Austell, Ga., and Dayton, N.J.
Toyo also will institute a 10-person customer service organization at the Ontario facility to handle ordering functions currently performed at each of its warehouses.
The consolidation will improve product availability and service to independent tire dealers, the company said in a press release.
Toyo Tire (U.S.A.) President Kazuo Nagai said the customer service changes were planned ``for some time'' and expects them to improve distribution times.
