STOCKHOLM, Sweden-A Goodyear-led partnership purchased Dackia, one of Sweden's top tire retailers, for an undisclosed amount Jan. 1. Goodyear now has a 50-percent interest in the 50-outlet chain, which also has three retread plants and annual sales of about $69 million. The other partners are Procuritas, a Swedish investment consortium, and a group of Dackia employees.
William J. Sharp, then-president of Goodyear Europe, said the deal will ``secure a strong Goodyear presence'' at Dackia.
Bridgestone enters India JV
TOKYO-The growing presence of foreign automakers in India has persuaded Bridgestone Corp. to enter into a joint venture agreement with Bombay, India-based Associated Cement Companies Ltd. (ACC).
Bridgestone said it will hold a 51-percent interest in the resulting joint-venture company, Bridgestone ACC India Ltd., which plans to build a $100 million plant to make radial passenger and light truck tires near Indore in Madhya Pradesh, India. Scheduled to come on stream in 1998, the plant will have an annual capacity of about 1.9 million tires.
