FINDLAY, Ohio-Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. has introduced three medium truck radials for the commercial market: the all-position CXMT 340 and CT 240, and the CXML 440 drive-axle tire. Two years in development and testing, the new all-steel tires feature Cooper's ``C-9000'' casing for maximum retreadability. They are being produced at the company's Albany, Ga., plant in four popular tubeless sizes: 295/75R22.5, 285/75R24.5, 11R22.5 and 11R24.5, all with a 14-ply rating.
The CXMT 340 features a five-rib tread design with see-through grooves for improved wet traction and more even wear. A decoupling groove between the tread and shoulder inhibits erosion wear.
Cooper said it plans to add several sizes of the CXMT 340 later this year.
The CT 240 also features a five-rib tread design, but a shallow 14/32nds-inch tread depth to dissipate more heat, making it well suited to free-rolling positions, Cooper said. Its basic, ``no-frills'' tread pattern is designed to deliver long, even treadwear.
Cooper recommends the CXML 440 drive-axle design for line-haul applications. Its flat tread radius promotes even treadwear for optimum mileage.
The three new radials carry a limited warranty Cooper characterized as ``one of the most competitive in the tire industry,'' with what a company spokeswoman called a generous casing allowance.
