I am writing this concerning corrosion problems on custom wheels. I'm wondering if anyone else out there is experiencing corrosion problems on polished or clear-coated custom wheels. What appeared to be the problem is the de-icing solution our local street maintenance crew puts on intersections when they are slick. This particular solution is called magnesium chloride.
Our city hired an engineering consultant to test this solution on a wheel that we had donated to them. The test results came back negative that the de-icing solution was causing the corrosion.
But the consultant also said it could be that other contaminants are reacting to the solution, such as dirt, oil, exhaust, or that maybe even the temperature fluctuation is part of the cause.
I'm looking for answers.
