Dave Russo, president of Bell Tire, Cleveland, Ohio, won a mini Action semi-truck flatbed hauler from Falken Tire Corp. during the recent National Tire Dealers & Retreaders Association convention in New Orleans. Falken mailed 150 keys to different dealers who then tried to open a locked box at the company's trade show booth.
``All I can say is it pays to participate in the industry,'' said Mr. Russo, who also is president of the Ohio Tire Dealers & Retreaders Association.
Ken Bittancourt, owner of Quality Tire in Manteca, Calif., presented a set of Uniroyal Tiger Paw radials to Eagle Scout candidate Kevin Thayer, who is renovating a service vehicle for Love Thy Neighbor-a Manteca organization that provides emergency food and shelter-for his community service project.
Quality Tire donated the tires for the project, which included new paint, upholstery and brakes, along with a major tune-up.
Burnsville, Minn.-based Tires Plus Groupe Inc. has added two locations, giving the firm a total of 65 outlets in five upper- midwestern states.
The company opened its 22nd franchised location Nov. 1 with an
outlet in Jamestown, N.D. Dale Lende owns the 3,600-sq.-ft., four-bay store.
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Cris Carter and Minnesota Timberwolves forward Tom Gugliotta helped raise $5,000 for charity at the new Tires Plus Groupe Inc., Burnsville, Minn., outlet Nov. 29-Dec. 2.
Make-A-Wish of Minnesota received $2,000 while Redemptive Life Fellowships received $3,000 during the outlet's grand opening.
Universal Tire Inc. recently opened a new location in Johnson City, Tenn.
The new outlet, Universal Tire's 13th, will be managed by Roger Price. Johnson City-based Universal Tire has commercial sales and service facilities in Tennessee, Virginia and North Carolina.
Spokane, Wash.-based Alton's Tire & Automotive opened its sixth outlet Oct. 24, with its fifth location in its home city.
The 10-bay tire store and repair outlet is housed in a renovated former Bridgestone/Firestone Inc. company-owned operation, according to Manager Thomas Butterfield.
The new outlet employs seven and can store more than 3,800 tires, Mr. Butterfield said.
Alton's Tire also owns a location in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
