BOCA RATON, Fla.-Tire Guides Inc., publisher of Tire Guide, Who Makes It & Where and the Tread Design Guide, is assembling more than 7,000 photographs of tires and tread designs for inclusion in what the company describes as the industry's first informational database on CD ROM. According to Bennett Garfield, founder and technical adviser of the Boca Raton-based company, the computer database will be made available in both a domestic and international version.
The domestic version is expected to carry an $850 price tag, whereas the more extensive international version will be priced at approximately $15,000.
Mr. Garfield said the primary markets for the database will be among law enforcement agencies and tire importers.
Federal Bureau of Investigation agent William Bodziak, who identified the tire footprint submitted as evidence in the O.J. Simpson murder trial, is serving as a consultant on the project.
A motor vehicle figures in more than 85 percent of the violent crimes investigated by police officers, according to Mr. Garfield.
