AKRON-Michael E. Petersen, who became president of Michel Tire Co.'s retail division last February, died Sept. 10 of a brain tumor in an Akron area hospice. He was 50. Mr. Petersen was born in Avoca, Iowa, and was graduated from the Radio Engineering Institute of Omaha, Neb.
He joined Firestone Tire & Rubber Co. in 1965 and worked in various capacities, including manager of truck and farm sales; retail sales manager; and manager of non-metro-market stores.
In 1989, he joined General Tire and worked, at one point, as general manager, north central region.
He left General as vice president of private brands in September 1993 and helped start Alexander Group International, a tire marketer, with two other former General executives. In February, Mr. Petersen joined Cincinnati-based Michel Tire to head the company's retail division.
Survivors include his wife, Lois; one daughter; his mother; and two brothers.
