KANSAS CITY, Mo.-Four Midwestern tire dealers associations are considering a proposal to combine their conventions into a regional trade show. Representatives of the Missouri Tire Dealers & Retreaders Association, the Iowa Tire Dealers Association, the Kansas Tire Dealers Association, the Arkansas Independent Tire Dealers Association and dealers in Nebraska met during the MTDRA convention in Lake of the Ozarks, Mo., Aug. 12 to discuss the concept. Another meeting is planned for November at which time representatives will return with responses from their respective boards of directors.
The KTDA board has already met and agreed to pursue discussions-even though its own show has garnered increased attendance annually-since combining resources will benefit all participants as well as save suppliers money, according to KTDA Executive Director Shawn Harrelson.
Chris Smith, an account executive with Laramie Tire Distributors Inc. in Kansas City, and an MTDRA board member, is spearheading the regional show proposal as many associations ``are struggling to have better shows and keep up attendance at the shows.'' Mr. Smith said he would also like to have more educational programs for dealers and technicians during the regional gathering.
Due to convention planning schedules, a regional show could not be slated any earlier than 1997, he said.
