The Kansas Tire Dealers Association may turn into a regional association if enough dealers in neighboring Nebraska express interest in joining the trade group. The KTDA held two organizational meetings in Nebraska in early June.
To determine if there is enough interest among Nebraska dealers, the association said it needs to establish a minimum of $3,000 in dues income from Nebraska dealers by Sept. 8 for the organizational effort to continue. As of June 26, the KTDA had received about a half dozen membership applications, but Executive Director Shawn Harrelson believed attaining the membership goal was possible.
If the goal is met, the KTDA said it will change its name and bylaws to include Nebraska dealers.
KTDA board members said they are interested in expanding the scope of membership in order to strengthen the organization, as well as to offer dealers in Nebraska the opportunity to organize for the first time.
As for Nebraska dealers, their
main concern is legislative issues and their state's scrap tire program, which is a few years behind in development compared with other states, according to Ms. Harrelson.

Russo assumes OTDRA helm
OREGON, Ohio-The Ohio Tire Dealers & Retreaders Association installed David Russo of Bell Tire, Cleveland, president during its annual convention in Oregon, June 16-18.
Other new officers include: Tony Vizyak of Great Lakes Tires Inc., Sandusky, first vice president; Mike Broadwater of Tyres International Inc., Columbus, second vice president; and Brad Schmucker of Millersburg Tire Service Inc., Millersburg, treasurer.
The OTDRA named John Marshall of Grismer Tire Co., Dayton, and Past President Brian Gump of Ziegler Tire, Akron, as new directors.
The OTDRA will combine its trade show and convention next year after conducting the events on separate dates during the past three years.
Executive Director Bill Floyd said the association hopes recombining the events will boost attendance of exhibitors and dealers. He speculated that the large number of industry trade shows held throughout the year impacted attendance at the OTDRA's two events.
The 1996 convention will be held at King's Island, near Cincinnati, June 14-16.
