TOKYO-Goodyear has confirmed reports emanating from Japan that, beginning this month (July), Honda Motor Co. Ltd. will import 150,000 Goodyear-brand tires annually, to be sold in the aftermarket through its Japanese dealer network. Goodyear said auto dealers account for 8 to 10 percent of the replacement tire market in Japan. Honda's 1,167 dealerships in Japan operate 2,231 outlets, according to a Reuters report.
In May, Toyota Motor Corp. said it will import Goodyears for sale through its Japanese parts distribution network.
Hankook opens European HQ
SEOUL, South Korea-Hankook Tire Manufacturing Co. Ltd. opened a regional headquarters for Europe in May in Neu-Isenburg, Germany, marking a change to a regional marketing strategy from one that dealt more with individual nations.
Headed by Director Jung R. Chey, the new headquarters will promote a unified corporate image in the advertising and marketing efforts of Hankook's two subsidiaries and four branches in Europe, respond to original equipment inquiries, promote direct sales in eastern Europe and study the creation of a central product distribution center for the entire region.
