ROCKY MOUNT, Va.-Emmett Sherrard Bennett, owner of Bennett's Tire Service Inc., died April 6 at his home in Rocky Mount of heart failure. He was 86. Mr. Bennett co-owned an automotive business when, in 1964, he bought out his partner's share of the tire service unit and started Bennett's Tire, according to his son, Sherrard, who now owns the company.
Mr. Bennett was a member of the Virginia Tire & Automotive Service Dealers Association.
In addition to his son, other survivors include his wife, Irene, one daughter, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Allen B. Sharp
OTTUMWA, Iowa-Allen B. Sharp, co-founder of Al-jon Inc., died unexpectedly April 4 at Ottumwa Regional Health Center in Ottumwa. The exact cause of death was not disclosed. He was 64.
A mechanical engineer, Mr. Sharp worked for two local manufacturers before co-founding Al-jon in 1963.
Mr. Sharp invented many of the automobile and tire recycling equipment that Al-jon manufactures. He retired from the company in 1989.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, two sons, one daughter and four grandchildren.
