BETHESDA, Md.-The Automotive Parts & Accessories Association reported that legislation requiring the addition of bittering agents to many automotive products is to be reintroduced in Michigan. A similar bill died last year. The chemicals would be required in antifreeze, brake and transmission fluids, and any external automotive cleaners sold in Michigan containing more than 10 percent ethylene glycol and 4 percent methyl alcohol.
Advocates of the legislation contend that giving the poisonous fluids a bitter taste cuts down on their accidental ingestion by children and pets.
