WASHINGTON-The Nation al Highway Traffic Safety Administration will replace the temperature resistance grade in the Uniform Tire Quality Grading Standard with a rolling resistance/fuel economy grade, according to a draft proposed rule circulating within the agency. The proposal, which was scheduled to be published in the Federal Register during the week of May 22, also will add a new ``AA'' traction grade to denote tires with the best traction, and revise treadwear testing procedures to maintain the current base course wear rate of course monitoring tires.
