Your article, ``AAA advises against buying retreads,'' in the April 17 issue points out the importance of our industry staying on guard against any derogatory remarks about retreading, whether passenger or truck. Although the derogatory remarks by David Van Sickle of AAA were directed against passenger retreading, you can be sure most readers of AAA Car & Travel magazine were left with the impression that all retreads are inferior to new tires.
It is very important for all retreaders to respond forcefully against this kind of negative publicity. When one type of retread is attacked, all retreaders are painted with the same broad brush and our entire industry suffers.
The retreading industry already is the victim of a seemingly never ending stream of negative publicity in the media. It's time we stood up and said ``enough.''
The Tire Retread Information Bureau constantly monitors the media and will continue to take action whenever we learn of a negative mention of retreads. We ask that your readers contact us immediately if they come across such a mention in their areas.
