LOUISVILLE, Ky.-The American Retreaders' Association will honor Baker Rubber Inc. President Tim Baker and CIMA IMPIANTI S.p.A. with its Industry Leadership Award during the ARA World Tire Con-ference and Exhibition, April 6-8, in Louisville. During the show's awards banquet, April 6, the ARA also will honor a retreading pioneer and an industry supporter.
The ARA Industry Leadership Award is presented annually to individuals or companies fostering and promoting the international tire and transportation industry.
Mr. Baker, who became South Bend, Ind.-based Baker Rubber's president in 1981, has worked to develop and expand ground rubber markets, and has overseen the firm's expansion and addition of plants in Pennsylvania and Arizona.
Award recipient CIMA IMPIANTI, the Italian manufacturer of retreading equipment, developed the Segmental Radial Pneus remolding machines, a robot system for automatic management of curing departments and the VRP tire molding machine.
The ARA will present its Friend of the Industry Award to William E. Messitt, maintenance analyst for the U.S. Postal Service, who began a push toward mandatory retreading of tires used by the service.
The ARA will bestow its Industry Pioneer Award to Louis T. ``Lou'' Fike of Ohio Machine Co., who has been involved in the design and manufacture of retreading equipment for more than 50 years. His achievements include the Trutred Tru-Band Retread System for large OTR tires, the Lodi Electra III press, the REI 135-inch Curing Table, the Simplex Curing Table line and segmented matrices for various passenger, light truck and truck presses.
