Scrap issue boosts LITDA roster
DENHAM SPRINGS, La.-The Louisiana Independent Tire Dealers Association's membership drive surpassed expectations last year, adding about 50 new members for a total of 253.
Executive Director Norman Rhea attributed the increased enrollment to the controversy over the state's new scrap tire disposal regulations, which dealers call ``a hardship,'' due to the amount of paperwork involved and the shortage of licensed tire processors to accept their old tires.
During the LITDA convention, March 10-11, about 60 members voiced concerns to a state Department of Environmental Quality official and, as a result, a committee was created to act as liaison between the association and the DEQ on the issue.
