Goodyear sued over Chinese tire venture
SANTA ANA, Calif.-China Tyre Holdings Ltd. is suing Goodyear for $1 billion, charging the Akron-based company ``knowingly pirated'' a tire plant in the Chinese city of Dalian which both had sought to acquire.
The suit was filed March 14 in U.S. District Court in Santa Ana, Calif., by China Tire Holdings and its affiliates-Orion Tire Corp. of San Clemente, Calif., and China Strategic Holdings Ltd. of Hong Kong.
The suit also seeks treble damages, which, if granted, would bring the total damages to $3 billion.
Goodyear had not seen the suit and declined comment.
