AKRON-Yokohama Corp. of North America said it is seeking a buyer for its Mohawk Tread Rubber business, which produces mold and precure products at its plant in Guntersville, Ala. Yokohama said it made significant investments in the tread rubber division since it acquired Mohawk Rubber Co. in 1989. But the company is selling the unit in order to focus on its core tire business.
Michelin to close Quebec recap shop
GREENVILLE, S.C.-Michelin North America (Canada) Inc. will be phasing out production at its recapping shop in Lachine, Quebec, by June 30, stating that the facility ``is not competitive in today's marketplace.''
The plant, in operation since the 1960s, employs 44 people, some of whom will be transferred to other operations.
Lampe to keliver keynote at ARA show
LOUISVILLE, Ky.-John Lampe, who has succeeded Sunil Kumar as president of Bridgestone/Firestone Tire Sales Co., will also take his predecessor's place in delivering the keynote address at the American Retreaders' Association World Tire Conference and Exhibition, April 6-8, in Louisville.
Mr. Kumar was slated as the keynote speaker, but in February he left the tire company to take a position with a New Jersey commercial roofing products firm.
Michelin to address Tire Society meeting
AKRON-Francois Michelin, managing partner of Groupe Michelin, will deliver the keynote address during the 14th annual meeting and conference of The Tire Society at the University of Akron, March 21-22.
The two-day conference on tire science and technology includes 27 technical presentations from the U.S., Japan, Germany, Korea and China.
BFS may sell roofing business to cut debt
NASHVILLE, Tenn.-Bridge-stone/Firestone Inc. wants to sell its Firestone Building Products Co. rubber roofing unit in order to reduce its $2.5 billion debt.
The Carmel, Ind.-based unit is the second largest producer in its market and BFS will only consider selling the company ``if its worth can be effectively realized,'' a spokesman said.
Goodyear debuts OTR service video
AKRON-Goodyear has devel-oped a video for its customers on the maintenance of off-the-road tires.
The video includes a ``walk around'' inspection of tires on haul trucks prior to a shift start, proper loading procedures, haul road design and maintenance, duties of the grader operator and other topics related to a comprehensive tire maintenance program.

Don wilson to chair retread council in '95
WASHINGTON-The Retread Industry Government Advisory Council (RIGAC) has named Don Wilson as its chairman. Mr. Wilson is general manager of finance, administration and government relations for the National Tire Dealers & Retreaders Association.
He previously served as vice chairman of RIGAC, an industry group designed to assist government agencies in developing retread procurement programs.
Spare tire problem spurs Ford van recall
DEARBORN, Mich.-Ford Motor Co. is recalling 11,200 1995 Ford Aerostars because some of the vans have a mini-spare that might not fit properly into the underbody tire carrier, which might cause them to come into contact with a brake line, possibly damaging it.
Ford said it had no reports of injuries or accidents related to the problem.
Goodyear top gainer in Dow record period
AKRON-Goodyear shares recorded the largest price increase in the 30-stock Dow Jones Industrial Average between April 17, 1991, the first time the Dow finished above 3,000, and Feb. 23 when it first made its way over the 4,000 mark, the Akron-based tire maker reported.
Goodyear's stock price rose 219.34-percent during that period, the company reported.
The average increase for the Dow Industrials stocks was 35.17 percent, according to Goodyear.
Dunlop opens new distribution centers
BUFFALO, N.Y.-Dunlop Tire Corp. has realigned its distribution network, replacing its two existing warehouses in Rotterdam, N.Y., and Fresno, Calif., with new distribution centers in Pottstown, Pa., and Vernon, Calif.
Dunlop plans to operate its Vernon warehouse through mid-summer and then move the operation to a permanent facility currently under construction in Ontario, Calif., east of Los Angeles.
