MINNETONKA, Minn.-Coming off a year of shortages in the specialty tire market, wholesale private label tire distributor Countrywide Industries Inc. is getting a headstart on what it expects will be another year of undersupply. The company, which markets its Rubber Master brand of specialty tires nationwide, has, according to Administrative Manager Kari Vick, added stock and additional sizes of lawn/garden, boat trailer, ATV and fork lift tires.
She said Goodyear's decision last year to abandon production of certain low-volume original equipment and replacement specialty tires created a dearth of those products which could affect supply for some time.
``Last year we had a shortage of specialty tires, and this year we anticipate an even greater one,'' she said, adding that the firm expects ``a very big growth spurt'' in the specialty tire market in 1995.
To meet anticipated demand, Ms. Vick said the 19-year-old company has added Indonesian tire manufacturer Deli to its stable of specialty tire makers that includes Taiwanese producers Cheng Shin Rubber Industry Co. Ltd., Kenda Rubber Industrial Co. Ltd., and Nankang Rubber Tire Corp. Ltd.
In addition to its Rubber Master label, Countrywide also markets specialty tires under its suppliers' flag brands. The firm, which sells mainly through other wholesale distributors and does some exporting, offers same-day shipping of tires, inner tubes, flaps and retread products, Ms. Vick said.
