VENTURA, Calif.-Ventura County held its first Waste Tire Amnesty Day, Feb. 25, and has begun distributing pamphlets, magnets and other promotional items to local tire dealerships as part of a program to encourage consumers to properly main-tain and service their tires. Parnelli Jones Inc. and Cogg's Tires co-sponsored the tire amnesty day with $500 contributions to the program, while about 55 tire outlets in the county supported the event by hanging posters in their stores, according to David Goldstein of the county's Solid Waste Management Department.
Area dealers also provided input into the county's ``Don't let your tires get tired'' brochure, which includes tips on proper tire maintenance and encourages consumers to buy longer-wearing tires.
Mr. Goldstein said the county provided limited copies of the brochure, but a dealership can print additional copies that include their name. The expectation is that after the county launches the program, dealers will ``carry it forward,'' he said.
Any tire dealer is welcome to use the program's materials, he said, by contacting the county's Solid Waste Management Department at (805) 648-9242.
