BERGENFIELD, N.J.-The New Jersey State Tire Dealers Association filled its administrator vacancy Jan. 1 with the hiring of Erwin Silling as executive director. Mr. Silling, a 35-year veteran of the tire industry, currently runs his own consulting firm, Automotive Retail Management, to help tire dealers and other retailers advertise and promote their businesses.
He had previously worked a number of years for Goodyear's retail operations in a variety of positions from store manager to regional store supervisor.
Among his goals as executive director is to help ``rejuvenate'' the membership roster, which has been on the decline in recent years. Mr. Silling said he hopes to get former members to rejoin and plans to provide training seminars and educational speakers for the membership during the year.
The association's first meeting of the year will be held Jan. 24 at the Coachman Restaurant in Cranford, N.J., where five dealers will be added to the NJSTDA honor roll for 25 or more years of service in the tire industry.
This year's honorees include: Bruce and Ira Schwartz of Apollo Tire, Denville; Jim Hannon of Somerset Tire Service, Bound Brook; Dan Langan of Crown Tire Marketing, Port Monmouth; and Jacque Perun of Inter-City Tire & Auto Center, Elizabeth.
The association's new address is: 50 Rector Court, Bergenfield, N.J. 07621; (201) 439-1515. Fax: (201) 439-1511.
