AKRON-Tire Centers Inc., has purchased Wood County Bandag Inc. in Pemberville, Ohio, former owner Jim Keiser said. Mr. Keiser, who will remain with TCI as the plant manager, has owned Wood County Bandag since 1981. ``I'm getting to the point where I want to slow down a bit, and I didn't want the company to suffer because of that,'' he said.
Wood County Bandag's only truck tire retread plant consumed about 1.2 million pounds of rubber in 1992, according to the latest figures available to TIRE BUSINESS.
MONTGOMERYVILLE, Pa.-About 825 dealers have joined Jetzon Tire's ``authorized dealer'' program since its inception last year, according to Fred Hoffman, vice president of marketing.
Under the free dealer program, Jetzon dealers are logged into a computer system the company will use for its new national dealer referral program. Dealers then receive a start-up kit and have access to promotional material.

TAMPA, Fla.-Bridgestone/Firestone Inc. has pulled its sponsorship of the International Motor Sports Association-sanctioned Firestone Firehawk Endurance Championship after 10 years, the tire maker said.
BFS said the move will allow it to focus on Firestone's 1995 return to Indy Car racing.

FULLERTON, Calif.-Former 21st Century Tire Corp. president, Daniel Hunter, has become vice president, marketing, of Yokohama Tire Corp., effective Jan. 3, the company announced.
Mr. Hunter, who previously held posts at Michelin North America and Uniroyal Goodrich Tire Co., was president of 21st Century Tire, a distributor of private brand tires, for the past two years.
CHICAGO-Former Goodyear executive John Fiedler became CEO of Borg-Warner Automotive, Jan. 1.
Mr. Fiedler, who in May resigned from Goodyear as executive vice president in charge of North American tires, joined Borg-Warner in June as president.
Mr. Fiedler, 56, succeeds J. Gordon Amedee, who will remain with the company as chairman.
GARDENA, Calif.-Nissan Motor Corp. is voluntarily recalling about 97,000 1993-1994 Maxima GXE models with aluminum wheels, a spokesman said.
Due to an error in production, the wheel bolts on about 20 percent of the vehicles are susceptible to breakage that could cause the wheel to fall off, the company said.
Nissan has asked owners to take their vehicles to their local dealers for inspection.
