SAN JOSE, Calif.-Lonnie Miller, 69, founder of a number of retreading and retail tire sales operations in Detroit and California, died at Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose on Sept. 11. Mr. Miller began his career in the tire business in 1948 as a tube repairman in Detroit. During the late 1950s he ran one of the original Bandag Inc. dealerships.
In 1964 Mr. Miller founded his first company, Lonnie & Woody's Recapping, which was also located in Detroit.
Mr. Miller went on to found King City Tire, King City, Calif.; Tire Vulcanizers Inc., Anaheim, Calif.; and Greenfield Tire, Greenfield, Calif. All but Lonnie & Woody's remain in operation.
He was a member of the American Retreaders' Association, the National Tire Dealers & Retreaders Association and the California Tire Dealers Association.
Survivors include his wife, Joan; son, James; daughters, Valli, Denise, Karyn and Diane Branning, King City Tire office manager.
PINE BLUFF, Ark.-William H. Roberts, president of Roberts Brothers Tire Service Inc., died of heart failure Oct. 13 in Trinity Village Medical Center in Pine Bluff. He was 71.
Mr. Roberts joined the family tire business after serving in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He became president of the firm in 1958 and was a former director of the National Tire Dealers & Retreaders Association.
Survivors include his wife, Norma Hanson Roberts; sons, Norman B. ``Brad,'' and Bruce H., a Roberts Brothers vice president; brothers, Clarence Jr., chairman of the board, and D.E. ``Jean,'' vice chairman of the board; nephews, Clarence III, president, Richard J., vice president, and Bart, manager of Roberts Brothers' Little Rock outlet; and two grandchildren.

MOUNT AIRY, N.C.-Emery Dean Bray Sr., 88, founder of Bray's Recapping Service Inc., died Sept. 20 at the Northern Hospital of Surry County in Mount Airy.
Mr. Bray founded a retail tire and service center in Mount Airy in 1930.
That operation began retreading tires in 1940 and became Bray's Recapping. Mr. Bray retired from that company as president in 1970.
He was a member of the American Retreaders' Association and the National Tire Dealers & Retreaders Association.
Survivors include his wife, Bessie; son, Dean Jr., who is president of Bray's Recapping; daughter, Jo; and grandson, Dean Bray III, vice president of Bray's Recapping.
