WASHINGTON-Except for all-season radials, wholesale prices of most passenger tires were up 2-3 percent in September. Prices of truck and bus tires declined slightly, while those of most other tires were relatively flat compared to the previous month. Over all, however, September prices were lower in the case of most tires than those recorded three months ago or those of the year earlier.
Exceptions to this trend were the prices paid for: 1) ``other pneumatic and all solid tires,'' which were up 4.3 percent compared to the year earlier; 2) industrial and highway solid tires whose prices were up 1 percent; and 3) ``all other pneumatic tires, including bicycle,'' whose prices were up 1.3 percent in September compared to the previous year.
Tread rubber prices were 3.2 percent higher than those of a year ago.
Prices of ``other tire sundries and repair materials'' were up 3.5 percent compared to those of the year-ago period.
