LAS VEGAS-Car care products maker Eagle One presented its ``Wheel of the Year'' awards during the Specialty Equipment Market Association's recent show in Las Vegas. Judging was based on originality, quality, styling, design and construction, the company said.
The three categories and their winners were:
Billet-style wheels-Boyds Wheels, for its ``Dune'' design;
One-piece wheels-Halibrand, for ``Sweet Swirl''; and
Multi-piece wheels- BBS/Pininfarina, for its ``Signature'' line.
Michelin North America received a 1994 Quality Excellence Award from AutoAlliance International Inc., a joint venture between Ford Motor Co. and Mazda Motor Corp. Michelin supplies XGTV tires to AutoAlliance for the export version of the Ford Probe.
Bridgestone/Firestone Inc.'s truck tire plant in Warren County, Tenn., has received Ford Motor Co.'s highest award for supplier quality, the Q1 Preferred Quality Award. The plant supplies Ford with radial tires for medium and heavy trucks.
The Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance has presented its 1994 TPM (Total Production Maintenance) Awards to Pirelli Group's tire plant in Izmit, Turkey, for its extremely high quality and efficiency standards.
According to Pirelli, this marks the first time in the award's 25-year history that it has gone to a tire manufacturer, and only the second time it has been presented to a non-Japanese company.
Hunter Engineering Co. has received a Vendor of the Year award from Montgomery Ward & Co.'s Auto Express Division in recognition of the quality of its equipment, product support and training. Hunter supplies the retailer with wheel balancers and alignment systems.
