PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa.-Daniel Gillings resigned Nov. 30 as president of Tire Service Co. Inc. Don Avellino Jr., son of company Chairman and CEO Don Avellino Sr., replaced Mr. Gillings as president of the company, which operates: 20 retail outlets under the Avellino's Tire & Auto Service Centers banner; a wholesale operation, U.S. Tire Wholesale, with two distribution centers in Pennsylvania; and a cellular phone business.
``Don Avellino Sr. invited me to come aboard in November of 1992 to turn around the automotive service business and to provide a succession plan for the Avellino family,'' the 54-year-old former president explained in a letter to TIRE BUSINESS. ``I am pleased to report that my mission has been successfully completed.''
Just prior to his resignation, Mr. Gillings helped the dealership establish its ``Performance Plus'' program, consisting of a number of in-store, dedicated high performance tire/wheel centers.
Prior to joining Avellino's Tire, Mr. Gillings was president and CEO of Bound Brook, N.J.-based Somerset Tire Service Inc. He said he plans to remain active within the automotive aftermarket.
