After 20 years as a single-store retailer, Direct Tire Sales has opened a second location in Norwood, Mass. The outlet, situated on two acres, has nine service bays and employs 15, according to founder and President Barry Steinberg. Mr. Steinberg opened Direct Tire in Watertown, Mass., in 1974. That location has grown to employ 60.
Direct Tire is looking to open a third location in the Boston area within 12 to 18 months, Mr. Steinberg said.
Cape Girardeau, Mo.-based Plaza Tire Service opened its 21st outlet with the company's third location in Paducah, Ky., Aug. 1.
The three-bay, retail location performs front-end, brake and shock service and sells Michelin, Bridgestone, Firestone and Dayton brand tires, according to Manager James Henderson.
Plaza Tire has locations in Missouri, Illinois and Kentucky.
Tires and Llantas Inc. moved its headquarters and a retail outlet into a building the company purchased in San Antonio, Texas, in October.
The company's new corporate address is: 1215 W. Poplar St., San Antonio, Texas, 78207. The firm's telephone and fax numbers remain the same.
Tires and Llantas, which owns two retail outlets in San Antonio and one in Laredo, Texas, intends to open two outlets in McAllen, Texas, by the end of the year, according to Director Gilberto Gonzalez.
Redburn Tire Co. celebrated its 60th anniversary as a General Tire commercial dealership Nov. 3.
As part of the anniversary ceremonies at its Phoenix headquarters, the dealership hosted an open house, held a catered dinner for its employees and longtime customers, and received a plaque and a painting from General executives.
Marvin Redburn Sr. founded the dealership in 1934. Today, Redburn Tire ranks as the 17th-largest independent commercial dealership in North America with 10 outlets and commercial sales of $29 million.
Falken Tire Corp. dealers had the opportunity to meet former Dallas Cowboys head coach Tom Landry during a special dinner the tire marketer held during September's National Tire Dealers & Retreaders Association convention and trade show in Dallas.
