WASHINGTON-Automobiles are getting a bad rap when it comes to pollution, according to the American Automobile Association (AAA).
The organization recently said that factories, big trucks and other pollution sources are causing more than two-thirds of the smog in major cities, but cars must ``bear the brunt of...the (pollution) controls.''
``It's time to put the blame for ozone smog where it should be,'' said Darryl L. Wyland, the AAA's senior vice president for government and public relations.
The AAA cited a study conducted by Energy & Environmental Analysis Inc. of Arlington, Va., that said in major cities with severe smog problems, 60 percent to 90 percent of the pollutants come from sources other than passenger cars and small trucks.
