AKRON-Goodyear may hire an outside firm to perform some work currently handled by its own finance division. Tasks under consideration to be outsourced could include all or some of Goodyear's information technology and support services, a company spokeswoman said. Or the firm could decide not to use an outside contractor at all. ``It's just a study.''
Goodyear is checking the level and timeliness of the services it provides in-house to see if other companies can deliver the very latest information services technologies more quickly. The move also could be used as a cost-saving measure.
The spokeswoman declined to speculate whether workers would be offered jobs elsewhere within Goodyear if their tasks were outsourced. Goodyear first began discussing the use of outside contractors with employees in September.
The spokeswoman said these would be Goodyear's first administrative functions to be outsourced. ``That's not to say that other things wouldn't be outsourced down the road.''
